Microsoft reportedly testing their smartphone
with their Asia suppliers

Microsoft Surface RT ReviewIt has been suggested several times that Microsoft could be looking to create a smartphone of their own. After all, they already have their own mobile platform and with the launch of the Surface tablet, a Microsoft-made smartphone running on Windows Phone certainly wouldn?t be a stretch of the imagination. Corroborating those rumors would be a recent report by the Wall Street Journal in which it has been suggested that Microsoft?s smartphone is currently being tested by their Asian suppliers. This is via officials of some of Microsoft?s parts suppliers, who claim that Microsoft is testing a smartphone but they are sure if this is a product that will go into mass production.

One particular source has indicated that the screen on this alleged device measures between four to five inches, making it larger than Apple?s iPhone 5, but smaller than the phablets offered by Samsung, LG and HTC. Microsoft naturally declined to comment on the speculation, which could be taken as a good sign because if the report was completely bogus, Microsoft would have outright denied it, at least that?s how it usually is. We won?t read too much into it for now, so take it with a grain of salt but do let us know in the comments below your thoughts on a Microsoft-made smartphone.

Westmill Solar Cooperative is the worlds largest
community-owned solar farm

Going green seems to be the in thing these days, and it looks like the numbers might be able to prove that. Launching in England is the world?s largest community-owned solar project under the Westmill Solar Cooperative. They are claiming to be the world?s largest community-owned solar project by attracting 1,650 investors and raising almost £6 million in just 6 weeks, a pretty impressive feat we?ll have to admit. Taking that money, they have purchased an existing 5MW solar farm near Oxford, a solar farm which managed to generate 4,900MWh of electricity last year. According to Westmill executive Phillip Wolfe:

?Solar power will become the world?s greatest energy source in our lifetime; heralding a new era of sustainable and ?democratic? energy supply. As the success of Westmill shows, solar energy enables ordinary people to produce clean power, not only on their roof tops, but also at utility scale.”

Facebook to exchange free WiFi hotspots for
check-ins

We?re sure that there are many of you guys out there who love to check into locations via Facebook ? I know because I am one of them. Well the good news is that Facebook is looking to capitalize on those check-ins, and we say good news because not only will this benefit Facebook, but it will benefit users as these check-ins will be ?exchanged? for free WiFi. According to reports, it seems that Facebook is currently trialing some sort of pilot program in which they provide some businesses with ?Facebook routers? which provide free WiFi hotspots to customers.

In exchange for the free WiFi, customers will just need to check into their location and they will then be directed to that business?s Facebook page, where depending on the business, deals and special offers could also be given to those that check-in. This is not only a win for the user who gets free WiFi, but also to the business that gains more exposure, but also for Facebook who will get the free data which helps create more specific ads. This doesn?t mean that those who refuse to check-in don?t get the free WiFi ? in fact the WiFi will still be provided but will require a password that should be given by the establishment.

The Lost Shores will be the next Guild Wars 2
update

A couple of days ago we reported that one of the reasons why ArenaNet was not extending their Shadow of the Mad King Halloween event was because they had another major content updated planned for the 15th of November. Some of you guys asked us what the update would contain and now we have an answer for you. ArenaNet has revealed that the next major content update would be called The Lost Shores and while the exact nature of the update remains somewhat a mystery, we can only guess that it has something to do with the sea ? at least based on what we can see in the image above. However based on the description, it seems that The Lost Shores will be a world event that will supposedly change Tyria forever.

This world event will be taking place on the weekend of the update?s launch and will introduce a new island for players to explore. The update will also introduce a beta PvP map and a new dungeon that is expected to be different from before, in which the difficulty of the dungeon will increase as players descend further into it. Sounds pretty exciting, doesn?t it? So, who?s looking forward to this update?

Panasonic Eluga gets updated to Android 4.0 ICS

While Panasonic might be pulling out of the European market a year after they announced their interest in it, they have not forgotten about their European customers and those who might have given their Android handset, the Eluga, a chance. Originally launched with Android 2.3 Gingerbread, it looks like Eluga owners can expect their devices to begin receiving the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update. Granted it?s not Android 4.1 Jelly Bean that we?re sure many were looking forward to, but it?s still better than nothing, right? Oddly enough instead of providing an OTA update, Panasonic has instead opted to put the download in the Google Play store, which means that you will need to navigate on over to download the update. You will need 150MB of SD card space and be running the latest Gingerbread ROM. It?s a little messy and unnecessarily complicated but like we said, better than nothing. Instructions on how to proceed can be found on Panasonic?s website.

Pre-ordering Crysis 3 will nab you Crysis 1 for
free

Crysis 1 was one of those games back in the day that required a pretty decent gaming rig in order to enjoy the experience to the fullest extent, and with computer parts getting cheaper and more affordable these days, building a decent gaming platform is cheaper than what it used to be. That being said if you never had the chance to play the original Crysis 1 due to your computer not being good enough, it looks like you will be able to get your chance as EA has announced that for those who pre-order Crysis 3, they will be receiving a voucher code that lets you redeem Crysis 1 for free. This is of course assuming your computer is decent enough to handle Crysis 3, which means that running Crysis 1shouldn?t be an issue. Depending on which platform you ordered Crysis 3 for, the offer will be valid for either the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3 or the PC.
