Apple Grabs 95.5 Percent Of Tablet Market In Q3

Apple Grabs 95.5 Percent Of Tablet Market In Q3

Strategy Analytics reports that Apple has 95.5 percent of the global tablet computer market share in the third quarter, putting total shipments for the quarter at 4.4 million units, up 26 percent from Q2. Android-powered tablets take up the second place, though it's a long way off with 2.3 percent market share. While Apple's dominance in the tablet market doesn't come as a surprise to anybody, since everybody has been rushing to get hold of the iPad, but 95.5 percent market share is definitely not something to be laughed about. With more Android-powered tablets being churned out by the day and some Windows-powered tablets arriving, let's see if they will be able to chip away at Apple's market share. Check out our in-depth iPad review to find out why this device is hogging the market.

Rumor: Verizon Cancels Android-powered LG enV Pro

If you've been waiting to get hold of an Android-powered LG enV Pro phone, there's a bit of bad news for you. Word is going around that Verizon has killed plans to release the phone as it's been said to have left users unimpressed during pre-release testing, though specific details behind the decision haven't been revealed. The device was pictured in a leaked user guide, and would have offered specifications such as Android 2.1, 5-megapixel camera, LED flash, and a 800 x 480 pixel touchscreen display. Has the device really been canned or will it arrive in the market on November 11 as earlier rumored?

Source Code Hints That Third Party App Support, Cloud Printing And Device Sync Coming To Google Docs

Folks digging through the source code of Google Docs have found some hints that Google intends to improve the service by adding support for third-party applications, cloud printing and "sync devices". We already know that Cloud Print allows users to print documents over the Internet instead of having to rely on the normal method of connecting through a printer, but there hasn't been any serious implementation of that feature anywhere just yet. Third-party support would likely involve allowing offline software or websites to tap into Google Docs to create texts that are saved directly into a Google account. Device sync could possibly involve pushing documents to an Android-powered phone, similar to how Google Calendar and Contacts sync. Considering that Google Docs is already pretty popular, it's good to see Google continue to focus on improving the service.

Samsung Continuum comparison chart

Samsung Continuum comparison chart

Fanboys of a particular device - say a smartphone, can argue till the cows come home on the pros and cons of their particular handset. Well, what better way to settle all disputes than using cold, hard facts? That's what Verizon Wireless did with their latest comparison chart, pitting the upcoming Samsung Continuum with the Droid X, Droid 2, Incredible and Fascinate - all top tier Android-powered handsets. Sadly enough for the Continuum, it has the Fascinate for company as both will run on Android 2.1, so here's to an Android 2.2 update rolling out soon. Processor-wise, it hums along at 1GHz albeit on a different platform, while losing out to Motorola's two offerings in terms of ROM count at 512MB compared to 8GB. Its display resolution is also less, and the 5-megapixel camera is the minimum among the bunch with the Droid X and Droid Incredible sporting 8-megapixel shooters. Lacking HDMI out, you can't view your recorded videos on an HDTV, only the Droid X does that at the moment among the five. At least the microSD memory card slot lets you hold up to another 32GB of storage space. Just in case you can't see the chart above too well, we have a larger version available by clicking on “Photo gallery”. Worth a purchase? It depends on your needs and wants, really.

Asus Lamborghini Eee PC VX6 ships at long last

Asus Lamborghini Eee PC VX6 ships at long last

Normally, an Eee PC branding would mean a netbook, and we all know that netbooks aren't good for anything else apart from opening up a couple of work documents with one browser (or two) running in the background, otherwise the poor little machine is going to start sputtering all over as it just lacks the processing muscle to handle all the additional tasks. Asus must have thought that their 12.1-inch Lamborghini Eee PC VX6 will automatically give an impression of it being faster by virtue of its association with the exotic car manufacturer, just like how rice rockets gain an extra 5mph with a sticker or two on their spoiler. Running on an Intel Atom D525 processor, this netbook will feature slightly higher end innards such as an NVIDIA Optimus graphics chipset and Bang & Olufsen audio capability, retailing for £499 a pop.

Sony EyePet has started to ship Stateside

Sony EyePet has started to ship Stateside

For those who want to have a go in the world of augmented reality Stateside, you will be able to do so with Sony's shipment of their EyePet software. This PSP title will be accompanied by a mandatory camera with each UMD, where the entire thingamajic has been listed as $39.99 a pop. Chances are pretty high that this is going to be a big hit in terms of sales, if only for its novelty factor, so you might want to place a pre-order now in order to avoid the fate of having it being sold out by the time December rolls around, resulting in a rather miserable Christmas. PSPgo owners will be left out this time round - so much for being an early adopter, eh?

No Skype Over 3G For Verizon Galaxy Tab

No Skype Over 3G For Verizon Galaxy Tab

One of the useful features of the Samsung Galaxy Tab will be its ability to use Skype for voice calling but word is going around that Verizon Wireless' Galaxy Tab will only offer Skype voice-calling over Wi-Fi. This is slightly different from what the other Android devices that it offers are getting since Verizon's Android smartphones are pre-loaded with a special version of the client that allows users to place Skype calls over Verizon's network without much fuss. It wasn't mentioned if this limitation is due to a technical hurdle or procedural red tape, but whatever is holding it back, we hope that it'll be sorted out soon.
