GSM Galaxy Nexus gains Google Wallet access

Sprint’s Nexus S 4G is currently the only handset to officially support the Google Wallet service, and this has certainly been a sore point of contention for folks who own the newer Galaxy Nexus. After all, shouldn’t Google’s flagship phone be able to come with all the bells and whistles to help it cement its top dog position? Currently, we know that Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile in the US have their own NFC payment system in the pipeline, and would prefer you to stick with them as they finalize the NFC system process before rolling it out to the masses, and that translates to hiding the application from all NFC-enabled phones on their networks. While the app is available on the Android Market, you cannot view it from your phone. (more…)

Steampunk Gun Victorian Airsoft Spring BB Pirate
Air Captain Sidearm

Nerf guns might have gotten the steampunk treatment in the past, as with guitars, and it seems that this trend is set to continue with the Steampunk Gun Victorian Airsoft Spring BB Pirate Air Captain Sidearm. I know, it can be quite a mouthful, but for $19.99 sans shipping, this one-of-a-kind firearm is the handiwork of a certain tongue-twisting MGySgt Ivan Tromovski. It seems that Ivan, being a time travel officer with the UWMC (United World Marine Corp.), has dropped by in our timeline from 2067 to deliver this unique weapon that will protect you from angry girlfriends, annoying brothers and even the ever hostile pet cat at home.

Lovingly hand painted, this is a fully functional Spring Airsoft BB Gun, complete with “light and laser”, although I am not quite sure whether it will be as effective in low light conditions or not. All you need to do is load the BBs in the clip, pull back the slide and start firing away! Each purchase will come with a pack of 6mm BBs to get you started right away. It does not look as refined or cultured as other offerings, as a simple coat of paint makes it look all steampunk – but at least it packs more punch than Nerf ammunition!

Huawei MediaPad arrives on AT&T

Huawei has just announced that their tablet which was first revealed to the world last year will be making its way towards AT&T from tomorrow onwards. AT&T’s enterprise users are the target market of both the carrier and Huawei, where one can choose from different price points to suit a particular business account. Just to recap, we do know that the Huawei Mediapad will come equipped with a 7″ IPS multi-touch display alongside the Android 3.2 Honeycomb operating system from Google. With a resolution count of 1280 x 800 pixels, your eyes will be in for a feast, while the 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor running underneath the hood should have enough muscle to get whatever job done on your new tablet. Sony Ericsson Xperia active Billabong Edition

Now is this the longest name for a smartphone, or what? The Sony Ericsson Xperia active Billabong Edition is certainly a mouthful, but when you see the name Billabong emblazoned across it, you know for sure that those leading an active lifestyle would be the target market of Sony Ericsson. Specially designed ?with extreme sports enthusiasts in mind,? this phone will come pre-loaded with exclusive wallpapers in addition to other mobile content, not to mention the Billabong Surf Trip game that was specially developed for the Xperia Play PlayStation phone.

On the inside, it is actually a branded version of the current Sony Ericsson Xperia active, sporting IP67 certification that makes it resistant to dust and water. There is also ?wet finger tracking? technology which allows you to play nice with its 3″ touchscreen display even when your fingers are not the driest in the world. Scratch resistant does not mean you can use it to cut another diamond though, but at least it can survive more knocks and scratches than most other standard handsets in the market today. Other hardware specifications include a 5-megapixel camera, an integrated FM radio with RDS, Timescape, DLNA support, Reality Display with Mobile BRAVIA Engine, and Google’s Android operating system.

Mitsubishi elevators hit the 60kph mark, is
fastest in the world

You might think that Mitsubishi is famous for their Evolution cars that snake across Japan’s touge routes, or the air-conditioners that you turn on during those sweltering summer months, but they too, are involved in other kinds of engineering – such as churning out elevators, for example. Sure, it is a different branch of the Japanese conglomerate, but it all falls under the Mitsubishi name all the same. The company has just announced a new range of technologies which results in ultra-high-speed elevators that are capable of traveling faster than 1,000 meters per minute – and we are looking at a top speed of 60 kph. This is commendable, especially when the Burj Khalifa’s Observatory elevators, being double deck cabs, travel at 10 metres per second, which translates to 36kph. Of course, Mitsubishi is also the company behind the elevators installed in the 632-meter Shanghai Tower in China. (more…)

Gundam Front Tokyo theme park to hit Odaiba,
Japan

The Japanese sure love their robots, and those who have an absolute love for the Mobile Suit Gundam anime series (there are also tons of Gundam toys for you to blow your savings on if you are interested) might want to check out the upcoming Gundam Theme Park which is set to open in Odaiba, Japan, this coming April 19. Bandai Co. says that the new theme park will be called Gundam Front Tokyo, sporting a huge dome-shaped screen that shows off different images of Gundam. For those who are not in the loop, Gundam is a fighting robot in the hugely popular series, so much so that it even inspired a fake Gundam robot in an amusement park in China. At the Gundam Front Tokyo theme park, you will find rare documents which are related to the series’ production paraded to satisfy your appetite for all things Gundam. This will not be an outdoor theme park, as it is located on the 7th floor of a new shopping complex, known as DiverCity Tokyo Plaza. If you are going to be in the neighborhood this April 19, then you might want to give this theme park a visit. It should not be too hard to miss, considering how a massive, 18-meter statue of Gundam will stand ‘guard’ outside the complex.
