We’d heard of Forza 4 getting Kinect support to for casual racing, but now a leaked internal video for the racing sim just about confirms it. Not only does the game allow you to hold your hands out on a virtual steering wheel, but it also has head tracking detection that “allows you to look into the corner while you race.” In addition to Kinect support, developers Turn 10 are shooting to make Forza 4 the most photo-realistic looking game on any console, with support for 16 player races over Xbox Live. That’s a bold claim, but we’ve heard that claim before from many game developers and most of them like Final Fantasy XIII fell short on their promise. Is your engine revved up at the news? While Microsoft hasn’t officially confirmed the news, the fact that it’s gone around to remove the video is probably worth something. There’s no point in removing a fake internal video if it wasn’t real to begin with, right? You’re in luck, we’ve found a mirror of the leaked video. Hit the full post for the video before it’s removed as well.

Add to myYahoo! While everyone is busy freaking out about the alleged iPhone 5 delay this year, a new leaked photo, purported to show the case for the seventh-generation iPod Nano is doing the rounds. Obtained by Apple.pro, the photo clearly shows a hole on the back of the iPod Nano case, leading many to believe that Apple will be bringing back a camera to the small touchscreen music player. If you’re up to date on your Apple history, you’ll recall that the fifth-gen iPod Nano had a camera for taking video (not still pics), but with the smaller form update last September, Apple axed the cam. With Apple.pro’s proven track record (it leaked the 6G redesign way before the unveil), we wouldn’t pretend to be amazed come September. As for a front facing cam for FaceTime? We wouldn’t count on it. Fitting a camera (even a crappy one) into the Nano’s already tiny body is already squeezing all of the components extremely tight.

Add to myYahoo! In an interview with CNN, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime said that the video game giant has “no desire to get into telephony.” This comes hot off the news of the “successful” 3DS launch in the US and Sony Ericsson’s recent launch of the PlayStation-focused Xperia Play in 11 global markets. Instead, Nintendo believes that it can offer exciting and engaging new forms of gameplay – through its proven software franchises such as Super Mario, Zelda and Metroid as well as through innovative tech such as the 3DS’s glasses-free 3D. Fils-Aime says Nintendo doesn’t feel it can have a competitive advantage in the cellphone market. Whatever could that mean? Critics will likely point at Apple’s iPhone and App Store as the culprit. Fils-Aime has a point. Going head to head with the App Store’s cheap games would devalue the $40 asking price that 3DS games command. In most cases, Nintendo’s first-party games sell well, so why would it go into a market where dollar games like Angry Birds and Doodle Jump rule? It won’t. If Nintendo did join the battle for smartphone domination, it’d lose for sure, and Nintendo hates losing.

Add to myYahoo!Yesterday, Gmail users woke up to see Google’s exciting new Gmail Motion web mail. In Google’s demo video, it showed a webcam that could recognize body motions and hand gestures to trigger actions in Gmail. In my opinion, it sounded like a great idea. In reality, it was only an April Fools’ Day gag by the cunning jokesters at Google. Less than 24 hours later, a bunch of researchers who have dabbled in getting the Xbox 360 Kinect sensor to work with Windows applications has turned Gmail Motion from a joke into a real working product. Called SLOOW, short for Software Library Optimizing Obligatory Waving, the hack gives you all of Gmail Motion’s ridiculous gesture commands, including the “licking an envelope” to send an email and “pointing backwards” to reply to an email. From the video demo, it looks to be pretty awesome. If you’ve got a Kinect and this hack intrigues you, you can download it right here. Video of the working Gmail/Kinect motion mash-up after the jump.

During an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Sir Howard Stringer (Sony’s CEO), mentioned that the tsunami would delay the shipment of Sony’s best camera sensors to Apple. The thing is, Sony isn’t known to supply sensors to Apple for current products, so it seems logical that Sony’s CEO was talking about the next-generation of Apple products, namely the iPhone 5. We’ve played with Sony’s latest and greatest Exmor R sensor (link, head to the photo capture section) and we can tell you that it is indeed quite amazing in low-light conditions. It’s way beyond today’s iPhone 4.
At the same time, there are rampant rumors about Apple not selecting OmniVision, the current camera sensor provider. Back in December 2010, Sony bought a CMOS chip plant from Toshiba, in the hopes to serve more handset customers. This investment might have come to fruition. The iPhone 5 is rumored to be delayed until October, because of a combination of iOS delay, and component shortages, following the tsunami in Japan.
If this is true, the next iPhone will have a great low-light shooting capability. Let’s hope that Apple will eventually upgrade the iPad 2 cameras too. Photo samples in the full post.
