Do you think that it should be mandatory for companies to release devices that are tough as nails on all fronts? After all, I do feel that the kind of hardware which are released these days are not up to par with the devices of yore. You do not see a modern smartphone with a full touchscreen display ending up as a meme in the form of an indestructible device like the classic Nokia 3310, right? If you are one who is clumsy, then you might appreciate Motorola’s effort with the Motorola Defy XT, which has been described as the “perfect companion” regardless of the situation you are in.
It will come with all the necessary bits to deliver a water-resistant and dust-proof form factor, not to mention sporting a scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass display that measures 3.7″ across diagonally. It will be equipped with a 5-megapixel camera and a front-facing camera, allowing you to document your adventures wherever you are. Enjoy the video above and would it do enough to help convince you to make a purchase? [Press Release]By Ubergizmo. So you have been a huge fan of the Sony PlayStation right from the get go, and love the PlayStation controller to bits all these years. Even when the Sony PS3 was released with the DualShock 3 controller, the basic form factor looked the same from all of those years ago. Well, Sony treasures the feedback of its customers, and this time around they do want to hear from you – fans of the PlayStation platform, to come up with your idea for what could possibly be a new DualShock 3 controller. From today until August 15th, you are able to head on to PlayStation.Blog.Share to submit your idea for what you think should the next generation DualShock 3 controller look like.
It does not matter just how your design looks like, but make sure it will be able to live up to expectations by being practical in its design. Imagine the kind of ribbing you would get from your mates if you submitted something that was off the books, and on the other hand, there is the sheer amount of respect attached to your brief if your design happened to be picked.By Ubergizmo. There was some sort of hoo-haa earlier this morning concerning Samsung releasing a bunch of excluded evidence that were related to the lawsuit in the US, and this rather naughty move has apparently attracted the ire of the judge who in the end, requested Samsung?s lawyer, John Quinn, to come up with an explanation as to who was the one behind the press release, after receiving authorization from the legal team. Quinn duly complied, filing an explanation to the court by claiming that the evidence’s release ?did not violate any Court Order or any legal or ethical standards.? Quinn also did mention that Samsung hasn’t issued any press release, while sending out ?public materials in response to press inquiries.?
This was further iterated by Samsung?s lawyer who further claimed that the material is certainly not some sort of underhanded ploy to ?influence jurors? as the selected jury ?had been specifically instructed not to read any form of media relating to this case.? We do look forward to see what kind of drama will develop in the courtroom later this Friday.By Ubergizmo. I.R.I.S. has just announced that they will be offering their latest portable scanning device – the IRIScan Anywhere 3, which will come in the form of a cordless portable scanner that will obviously be powered by an internal battery. With the IRIScan Anywhere 3, you are able to put on record various items that tend to go missing when you need them during the most crucial moments, such as paper documents, receipts, photos and others – sans the need for a computer, of course. It is said that the IRIScan Anywhere 3 is a snap to use, where a sheet of paper will zip through the scanner in a jiffy, where the scanned image is then saved on the built?in memory, although you can always opt to have it saved onto an SD memory card.
Being relatively small and lightweight, it is a snap to tote around, and the IRIScan Anywhere 3 is also an efficient worker, scanning half a dozen pages per minute in black/white or color with 600 and 300 dpi scanning resolutions. On battery mode, it is capable of saving up to 100 letter sized documents before requiring a recharge. The asking price for the IRIScan Anywhere 3? $199 a pop.By Ubergizmo. Roku has unveiled a new list of hardware partners who are working on making sure that the Roku stick works well on their HD Television. Partners include: Element Electronics, GlobalVue International LLC, Haier, Hitachi America Ltd, Insignia, a Best Buy brand, Mitsubishi Electric (TVs), Onkyo and Integra, OPPO and TMAX Digital Inc (Apex DigitalŪ TVs).
The reason why this is important to get the TV folks on board is because the Roku stick uses an MHL port, which looks like -and plug into- an HDMI port. While physically identical from the outside, MHL does provide power to the Roku stick and requires internal electronics to interpret the signal. It happens fairly often that consumers buy a MHL device and connect it via HDMI only to discover that it won’t work because the TV does not support MHL.
By working with these TV manufacturers, Roku will be able to provide a compelling list of compatible devices to their customers to improve the overall user experience. The Roku streaming stick is expected to launch in the “fall of 2012″ and it should be one of the most affordable and small video streaming device.By Ubergizmo. RIM has just confirmed that a particular render of a yet unreleased (needless to say, it remains unannounced) BlackBerry device which was leaked by accident on the RIM’s developer website is the real deal. The device is known as Dev Alpha B, where it was obviously named that way as it is a successor to the existing Dev Alpha device. It will no doubt be used to test out the yet unofficial BlackBerry 10 operating system, albeit the render was removed from the site in a jiffy. According to Twitter user @NerdBoss514 who approached the folks at @BlackBerryDev concerning this mysterious device, the response he received was that the Dev Alpha B will be an eventual hardware update to the current Dev Alpha.
It does seem to indicate that the Dev Alpha B will come with a slightly different inner layout, and for instance, the micro SIM card slot, would alter its location on the new developer device. The Dev Alpha A device will feature a 4.2″ display at 1280 x 768 pixels, 1GB RAM, 16GB of internal memory, a microSD memory card slot and a dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 (which could see an upgrade in due time, who knows?) chipset within.By Ubergizmo. The Sony Xperia SL has started to show up in a couple of new colors, and this smartphone, also known as the LT26ii if you are a sucker for model numbers, is tipped to oust the current Sony Xperia S, where it will ship with a faster-clocked 1.7GHz dual-core processor alongside the MSM8260 chipset to keep it company. Just what are the two new colors that the Sony Xperia SL come in? We are looking at silver and pink shades that will keep company the existing black and white colors of the Sony Xperia S. There is every chance that the image which you see above could eventually turn out to be a fake, just like what happened in the past, so we will take this with a grain of salt at the moment and hopefully, sometime down the road, something else might turn up unexpectedly to confirm that the Sony Xperia SL will indeed, arrive in a couple more colors that some might love, while others hate.By Ubergizmo. There seems to be this popularity contest going on among celebrities in the world of social networks, and you might just be surprised to hear who the “winner” is when it comes to an artist who has the most Facebook “likes”. I would suppose if you mentioned Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber and perhaps even Michael Jackson, those perennial favorites would come close, but none of them are able to overhaul Eminem who recently managed to set the pace for the most Likes by a living person with a cool 60.1 million figure. This would place him heads above shoulders from the rest, and it clearly places him at number 5 on the list of the top 10 Facebook pages.
The App Data page showed that Eminem actually gains approximately 179,000 new Likes each week, and if you break it down, that would be 26,854 a day – more that a thousand Likes per hour! Rihanna is close behind at second place with 59.4 million Likes to date. The other Facebook pages with more Likes are not human though, with YouTube (61.2 million), Texas HoldEm Poker (63.8 million), Facebook itself (70.3 million) and the Facebook for Every Phone page (117.5 million) beating out Eminem.By Ubergizmo.
