A good part of the Techtree editorial team consists of gamers, and just like the rest of this country, we all unanimously love the racing genre. If you have been a regular in the gaming section, you already know of my love for both Arcade and Simulation disciplines. A good game, however, transcends all trappings of genres, because when the developer gets the formula just right, the game is bound to leap past the barriers of sub-genres and appeal to Read Full Article

Wanted to shoot your own artsy Kinect photographs or capture pictures of wildlife at night, but didn’t have access to any infrared-sensitive cameras? While infrared cameras aren’t exactly new technology, they’re not very common and are always a novelty to have. The Magpix IR-101 Midnight/Shot is no exception. Featuring a 5 megapixel image sensor, it takes images at 2,560 x 1,920 resolution and videos at 640 x 480. With an 8x digital zoom to help you get closer to your subject, it even has a 3″ LCD display for you to preview your shots before you take them. What makes this camera special though, is its ability to take photographs in total darkness. It contains an infra red sensor that lets you take monochromatic images when it’s pitch black outdoors or indoors. It stores pictures and videos onto an SD card (supports up to 8GB) and has a rechargeable battery that lasts up to 500 shots. The Magpix IR-101 Midnight/Shot is available now for $149.99.

Some of the most common devices that make use of microSD cards we use today are digital cameras and MicroSD card readers. Well some of you might argue that digital cameras can be used as microSD card readers as well, but that’s besides the point. Can your microSD card reader take photographs? I didn’t think so. Well, the folks at Fuuvi, have released a tiny microSD reader/camera and boy it sure is cute. This little camera won’t be replacing your DSLR anytime soon, but for a camera that fits on a keychain or in the coin compartment inside your purse, it doesn’t get better than this. Featuring a thin and slim profile (35 x 70 x 15mm) and a weight of only 24g, this is one camera that won’t be a hassle to bring with you everywhere you go. The 3.1 megapixel camera takes pictures at 1280 x 1024 and videos at 720 x 480 resolution (30fps) which is actually not too bad for a camera that tiny. And when the time comes for you to transfer the pictures and videos to the computer, all you have to do is remove the USB cap and plug it into a USB port. The Fuuvi digital camera is available now for $59.99.

If you had a large touchscreen at your disposal, the first thing you would probably think of doing is play Angry Birds on it. Well, believe it or not, touchscreen displays can be used for productive purposes as well. Researchers at the Institute for Molecular Medicine Finland collaborated with Multitouch Ltd to combine a giant touchscreen with a networked digital microscopy system and came up with a new breed of microscope. Instead of having to squint down an uncomfortable eyepiece, scientists will be able to make use of a giant touchscreens to intuitively manipulate the lens while observing the subject. Sounds like a great way to make use of a touchscreen. Hit the break to watch it in action:

The Alienware M14x that was rumored about earlier this week might turn out to be the real deal after all. Chinese tech site, Zol.com.cn, posted a full review of the laptop alleged to be the M14x online, and provided some clear snapshots to go along with the details of the computer. According to the report, the Alienware M14x features an Intel Core i7-2820QM Sandy Bridge processor, 8GB of RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M graphics, 750GB drive and a Cougar Point HM67 chipset. No mentions of the tablet’s weight or dimensions were mentioned, but it does look like the real deal. Unfortunately we won’t know for sure and until we receive an official announcement, we should take this report with a grain of salt. Read the full report of the Alienware M14x.

According to some reports online, it looks like Verizon is doing pretty well with the HTC ThunderBolt. The first ever 4G LTE phone on the network has been said to be outselling the iPhone 4. A technology research firm, BTIG, contacted 150 Verizon Wireless retail stores over 22 major cities in the US and asked the sales representatives whether they were selling more ThunderBolts or iPhones over the past week. Their results: 61% said they sold an equal amount of both phones, 11% said they sold more iPhones and 28% said they sold more ThunderBolts. But can these results be conclusive to how well the phone is actually doing? More…
