Researchers from the Temple University School of Medicine have successfully developed a new biosensor that is capable of sniffing out explosives, making this a great tool which can be used in the future to help detect hazardrous gases and landmines. The biosensor was created by genetically engineering a yeast strain with rat olfactory signaling machinery, linking it to the expression of green fluorescent protein. The biosensor will turn fluorescent green when its olfactory receptors pick up the scent of ingredients used in explosives. Let's hope there are no boogers to clean from such a device.
