Ever been in the movies to catch a horror flick, and halfway through the movie, in that moment of suspense, yell out “RUN!” or something similar? Obviously the person on screen couldn’t hear you (and as a result met a horrible end), but what if you could influence the person on screen? That’s what the folks behind Last Call are aiming to do with their interactive horror film. Audience members will be asked to supply their cell numbers before the movie, and at one point, a phone number is selected at random from the list, and will be called. Voice recognition software will then listen to the person’s commands and the story will unfold based on their instructions. Of course, instructions will most likely be the usual things like “run, stay, turn right” or something along those lines. Trying to get the character to tap dance or sing the national anthem probably won’t work. It’s a cool concept, and will be interesting to see how it’s implemented. What would happen if the person left his phone on silent, and didn’t pick up, though?
