The Pirate Bay backup available for download

With all the file sharing websites being taken down or shutting down voluntarily, online file sharers are looking for alternative ways to keep the file trade going. While some folks have come up with an alternative way of distributing files (Tribler), websites like The Pirate Bay have announced their intentions to switch to magnet links instead of torrents. allisfine, a The Pirate Bay user, had other plans up his sleeve.

He decided to create a backup of the torrent tracker that anybody can download and use in the event it gets shut down. Using a script, he managed to copy the title, id, file size, seeds, leechers and magnet links of all 1,643,194 torrents currently hosted on the site. All the magnet links were compiled into a single text file which is 164MB in size and 90MB compressed. Who would’ve thought that one of the world’s largest torrent trackers would fit on a thumb drive? Hit the source for more info and a download link if you’re interested.
