Women of The World mobile application by the World Bank

The World Bank is using technology very creatively to support its #thinkEQUAL campaign, an initiative that aims to increase awareness of progress in gender equality on our planet. We reported about the Open Forum , an online event hosted on the World Bank Live website every year, to address major social and economical issues. The 2011 session was dedicated to #thinkEQUAL .

To continue to support the #thinkEQUAL campaign, the institution partnered with Fotopedia to create a visually compelling iOS application called ?Women of the World?, that features hundreds of photographs shot by photographer Olivier Martel in more than 75 countries.

The images, showcasing women across the world, are beautiful and inspiring, and Jeni Klugman, the World Bank?s Director of Gender and Development, expects that they will motivate people to improve women?s rights. Check a few pictures in the complete article.

Although I highly appreciate both the campaign and the quality of the application, I regret that the World Bank and Fotopedia did not appoint top female photographers such as Ami Vitale, Carrie Mae West , Linsey Addario, Zoreh Soleimani, Agnes Dherbeys, Laura Boushnak, Newsha Tavakolian, Erin Trieb, Tanya Habjouqa, Veronique de Viguerie, Kael Alford, Stephanie Sinclair, ?
