EMI, the record label of the likes of Lily Allen and Robbie Williams, has taken a massive step in making the world a better place today, by announcing it's going to make its entire catalogue available both in a higher quality download, and without DRM. This means you'll be able to play the songs on any MP3 player, and copy it as many times as you please.
The biggest piece of news is where the songs will be available from. Whilst Apple and Steve Jobs has been criticised in the past for only allowing iTunes purchased tracks to be played on iPods, they seem to have relented, by letting EMI sell their DRM free stuff through the store.
There is a slight increase in price for the higher quality stuff, from 79p a track to 99p, but they will be twice the quality of what is currently available. They'll be available through iTunes in the open AAC format, and users can upgrade their current collection for 20p per song.
