Looks like the free WiFi plan for San Francisco has hit a snag, with an increase of laptop thefts in the city. Internet cafes in San Francisco registered an increase of 30 robbery cases in 2005 when compared to 18 cases in 2004. Most of these thefts were non-violent with the exception on one man being stabbed in the chest when he refused to part with his laptop. Internet cafes and coffeehouses have already taken the pro-active approach of implementing various security measures around their premises, including cable locks on tables and door guards.
